Utilities in Dubai – getting your Dubai home connected

Electricity and water are provided by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), who are also responsible for sewerage. Getting Dubai properties connected for utilities in Dubai is not complicated but is something you want to do as quickly as possible. Private companies will supply gas to your Dubai home.

Utilities in Dubai – electricity and water

DEWA provides electricity and water to Dubai properties. To have your Dubai home connected you will need to go along to DEWA’s customer service hall and fill in an application form. Thereafter, you must submit the completed application along with a copy of your tenancy agreement/proof of ownership and a refundable deposit of Dhs 1000-2000.

When this is done, you will receive a receipt stating the deposit has been paid along with a date when your Dubai home will be connected to electricity and water. Tap water is safe to drink but many people choose to have bottled water delivered to their Dubai properties.

DEWA can be contacted 24 hours a day on (04) 304-1444.

Utilities in Dubai – gas

Gas is not available through mains so to get Dubai properties hooked up you need to have it delivered in canisters to your Dubai home. Several private companies deliver propane bottles to Dubai properties and gas ovens are connected via an outside tap. Once you have chosen your supplier keep the number handy and canisters can normally be delivered to your Dubai home within 20 minutes of calling.

Telephones, Internet and telephones in Dubai

It is not only utilities in Dubai that you need to organise connection of as soon as possible after arriving. The Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (LINK)is the main provider of telephone services in Dubai and is efficient in arranging service connection. A residence visa is required to have a land line for your Dubai home but you can have a mobile without residency.

Emirates Internet & Multimedia (LINK)is the only provider of Internet services to Dubai properties. Access can be obtained from any land line but some sites are restricted.

You can have your Dubai home hooked up to a satellite dish to provide you with entertainment that is not in Arabic. Dubai properties do not receive individual mail deliveries. Instead, mail is delivered to post office boxes, from where it must be collected.

Getting your Dubai home connected for utilities in Dubai and other services should not present too many problems provided you arrange it as early as possible.
