Planning permission for property in Dubai
Planning permission as we know it does not exist in Dubai. When it comes to planning the construction of property, Dubai operates a strict system where only licensed contractors may build new developments.
It was only in 2002 that foreigners were first permitted to own property. Dubai, in 2005, updated this situation so that non-nationals could register ownership of property in Dubai with the lands department.
However, whilst it is possible to move to the city and buy property, Dubai’s ruling elite still does not permit the ownership of land amongst foreigners. Emigrants can only buy property in Dubai’s specially designated zones for foreign ownership.
Therefore it is not possible to purchase land with the intention of building your own property in Dubai. At least this means you will avoid becoming embroiled in lengthy planning permission battles!
